Terms of Service
Last updated: February 21, 2026
The Agreement
By using Death2Data ("D2D," "we," "us"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. These terms apply to all users of death2data.com and its associated tools and APIs.
The Service
Death2Data provides privacy-focused tools including:
- Privacy Search — web search without tracking
- Story Mode — read web pages as clean cards
- 28-Day Notebook — topic exploration, stored locally
- Data Sanitizer — strip metadata from images
- File Converter — convert between image formats (HEIC, WebP, PNG, JPEG)
- Leak Score — check breach exposure
- Identity Vault — cryptographic key management
- QR Identity — identity cards and verification
We may add, remove, or modify tools at any time. Most tools run entirely in your browser — we'll always tell you when something touches our server.
Pricing & Billing
- Cost: $1 USD every 28 days, billed automatically via Stripe.
- Free tier: Limited search results and Day 1 of notebooks are free. No payment required to try.
- Price guarantee: We won't raise prices for existing subscribers without 30 days email notice.
- Stripe fees: Stripe charges us ~$0.33 per transaction. We eat that cost.
Cancellation & Refunds
- Cancel anytime. No questions asked.
- Access continues until the end of your current paid period.
- No refunds for partial periods (it's $1 — we keep it simple).
- To cancel: email matt@death2data.com or manage through Stripe's billing portal.
- After cancellation, your local data (notebooks, tool outputs) remains on your device. We delete your server-side account data within 30 days.
Your Account
- Accounts are identified by email address.
- One account per person. Don't share your login.
- We authenticate via email — no passwords stored.
- Your JWT token is stored in your browser's localStorage. If you clear it, you'll need to re-authenticate.
Your Data
- Most of your data is stored on your device, not our servers.
- You are responsible for backing up your local data (notebooks, keys, etc.).
- If you clear your browser storage, your local data is gone. We cannot recover it.
- We store only your email and subscription status on our server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
- Your data belongs to you. We claim no rights to anything you create or store.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use our tools for illegal purposes.
- Attempt to hack, exploit, or damage our systems.
- Use automated bots or scripts to abuse search or API endpoints.
- Share your account credentials.
- Resell access to our tools.
- Use the service to harm, harass, or stalk others.
Termination
We may terminate your access if you violate these terms, your payment fails repeatedly, or we reasonably believe you're abusing the service. If we terminate for cause, no refund. If we shut down the service entirely, we'll refund your current period and give 30 days notice.
Service Availability
- We aim for high uptime but don't guarantee it.
- Our API server (Render free tier) may have cold starts — the first request after inactivity can take 30-60 seconds.
- Tools that run locally (sanitizer, converter, notebook, leak score) don't depend on our server and work offline.
- Search and Story Mode require our API server to be running.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
- We are not liable for data loss (most data is on your device — back it up).
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Intellectual Property
- The D2D brand, design, and proprietary code are ours.
- Your data and content are yours. We claim no ownership.
- Some D2D tools may be released as open source (MIT license). Open source components are governed by their respective licenses.
Dispute Resolution
We'd rather talk it out. Email matt@death2data.com first. If we can't resolve it, these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Florida.
EU/EEA Users
If you are in the EU/EEA, nothing in these terms limits your rights under the GDPR or applicable consumer protection laws. See our Privacy Policy for your data rights, including the right to access, rectify, delete, and port your data. If mandatory local law provides you with stronger protections, those protections apply.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll update the date at the top and email subscribers. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms. If you disagree with changes, cancel your subscription.
Severability
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
